Taking Better Photos – Part 2
Disclaimer: I am very much an amateur when it comes to photography. The following tips I have learned from very minor experience and from listening to those with more experience than me. There may be inaccuracies in the information so I suggest you try them out by playing with your camera at home or out and about, rather than at your sister’s wedding or kids birthdays where you may be killed for rubbish photos. If any more experienced photographers find inaccuracies please leave a comment.
The first tip relates to background blur. If you are taking a photo of someone or something, such as a portrait, and you want all of the focus to be on the subject, you can increase the blur on surroundings by doing the following:

Taking Better Photos – Part 1
As well as linking to my photos on Flickr I thought I would write about my experience and what I have learned about photography so far. Not so long ago I used to just use the automatic setting on the camera, hold the camera in my hands, point, zoom and shoot. This got decent photos sometimes when the camera got the settings right for the scene.

I love music – mostly music that has at least one guitar in it. Folk, rock, alternative, grunge, and punk are what I listen to most and to narrow it down further, a lot of Australian music. Some of my favourite music is from You Am I, Grinspoon, The Living End, Something for Kate, Paul Dempsey, The Cat Empire, Darren Hanlon, Powderfinger, Bernard Fanning, The Badloves, Ben Lee, Ben Harper, Ben Folds, Kings of Leon, Cold War Kids, Mumford and Sons, Def FX, Eskimo, Joe, Foo Fighters, Gyroscope, Jeff Buckley, Jose Gonzales, Josh Pyke, Little Birdy, Muse, Nirvana, and Radiohead. This is my guitar. I don’t have time to play it anywhere near as much as I would like to but when I do these are the artists that I play.

Sunset Drive

I was inside at home and when I walked past the front door the colour of the light coming through the glass panels caught my attention. When I opened the door the colour of the sky sent me running for my camera. I did not have time to setup the tripod or to use manual settings, so I just rested the camera on the roof of the car and switched to landscape mode. I was happy just to have captured this.
